What is AppFolio bookkeeping?
AppFolio bookkeeping covers the financial work done inside the AppFolio platform, including bank reconciliations, trust account management, owner statements and property-level reporting. The accounting principles match general bookkeeping, but AppFolio has its own workflows and reports that take real time to learn well.
Why do my AppFolio owner statements not match my bank balance?
The usual causes are unapplied credits, transactions posted to the wrong property or owner ledger, and timing gaps between when payments arrive and when they are posted. Your trust account balance has to equal the sum of all owner and tenant ledgers, so even one misposting shows up. Running the Trust Account Reconciliation report monthly catches these issues early.
What reports should I run in AppFolio every month?
At a minimum, run Profit and Loss by Property, Owner Statement, Trust Account Reconciliation and Accounts Payable Aging. Together they show cash flow, owner equity, vendor obligations and trust compliance.
